Warner’s evening class schedule runs straight into dinnertime, which means that hunger will strike during or between classes. To prevent becoming “hangry,” knowing where to find food fast on campus is key.
If you are extremely pressed for time, there are vending machines on the first floor of LeChase. One machine contains your usual snacking suspects: chips, cookies, pretzels, candy bars, fruit snacks, and gum. The other machine has Easy Mac and Cup O’Noodles, which require additional supplies for meal completion. For your hot water requirements, you can jet to the third floor and use the electric kettle in the Student Lounge. To accompany your quick snack, there is a variety of beverages ranging from sodas to energy drinks to Starbucks bottled Frappucinos at your disposal. These vending machines take cash, credit or UR meal plans.
If you’ve made it to campus and are looking to grab something more substantial before class starts, head to Wilson Commons, located next to LeChase on your way from Rush Rhees. Wilson Commons has the most options for take-out meals. The newest and hottest addition to the Wilson Commons’ Pit is the Freshens Burrito Bowl and Smoothie Station. Like Chipotle, Freshens offers rice-based bowls, which you can fill with a variety of proteins and toppings. Wilson Commons also has pizza, Panda Express, grill items like ‘burgers and ‘dogs, a salad bar, soups, sushi, desserts from Cheesy Eddie’s and a Blimpie in the Hive (another area in the Commons).
Another good option for a quick bite on the way to class is Connections, the café in Rush Rhees. My favorite thing about Connections is that they serve Hale & Hearty Soups and carry Hedonist chocolate. They carry other local products and serve hot drinks as well.
If you’ve chosen to double up on classes one evening like I did this semester you probably want to know where to find the nearest caffeine. Luckily, you won’t have to go far. In the third floor Student Lounge (accessible by UR ID swipe) there is a Keurig coffee machine with K-cups available for free for student use. I also mentioned that there is an electric kettle, but tea bags are BYO. If you prefer a fancier cuppa, Starbucks isn’t too far away, located on the second floor of Wilson Commons.
Finally, there are kitchens with microwaves and refrigerators for student use on the third floor. So if you prefer to bring your dinner, you won’t be forced to eat it cold.
