The Warner Higher Education Student Association or HESA is celebrating its tenth anniversary this year! HESA’s mission is “to act as a support system for incoming and current Higher Education Masters and Doctoral students by providing opportunities to engage” in social events, service projects, networking, knowledge communities, and more. It is open to all Higher Ed students at Warner and really is the best way to connect with fellow classmates and help one another find and make use of opportunities and resources. HESA is many different things, it is a Facebook group that is used for anything from posting job openings, buying and selling books for courses, to celebrating each others’ achievements. HESA is also social hours at area restaurants and bars to help us get to know one another outside of class.Group study sessions (also a piece of what HESA does) in December helped me power through the end-of-the-semester crunch.

As an organization HESA is easy to engage with on whatever level works best for you. Some of our members enjoy the Facebook group and the networking opportunities it supplies. Other members seek out the social events and collaborations with WGSA (the Warner Graduate Student Association), while some help with Warner School Orientations or HESA service projects. As one of the 2015-2016 co-chairs of HESA (Griselda Parades is my counterpart) I am excited to help HESA continue to grow this year both through engaging with new Warner students and deepening our involvement in the Warner, University of Rochester, and the Greater Rochester communities.
